Program Purpose:

In honor of the work of Jonathan E. Zimmer, ACTION-Housing, Inc. has set up the Jonathan E. Zimmer Internship Fund.

Jon has provided outstanding leadership to the Agency and the whole region in the area of housing and supportive services from 1972-2006.

Through this fund, Jon’s commitment to the field of housing and to youth will continue into the future with fresh new energy from our area’s outstanding universities.

Through special donations and grants, ACTION-Housing has been able to accept a number of interns over the years. This fund will assure continuation of this collaboration, benefiting both the agency’s work and our young people.

Terri F. Gould Scholarship Fund Back to Top

Contact Details:

Lori Forkin, Housing Developer
Voice - 412 281-2102 ext. 2028
Email - lforkin@actionhousing.org

Program Purpose:

This Fund provides scholarships to support the educational programs of ACTION-Housing clients and clients of our partner organizations. The scholarships, usually $1,000, are distributed at ACTION-Housing’s annual meeting in June of each year.

How Does the Program Generally Work:

Staff members and representatives of our partner agencies (transitional housing facilities and other human service organizations) identify clients who are pursuing self-sufficiency through participation in educational programs, usually at the college level. We consider the obstacles they have overcome, their progress toward self-sufficiency and their financial need and then make decisions on the individuals who will receive the awards.

Eligibility Criteria/Clientele:

As noted above, the recipients are either clients of ACTION-Housing or our partner organizations. They are selected on the basis of their demonstrated ability to overcome major problems and pursue self-sufficiency through participation in educational programs. The income criteria are not fixed, but virtually all of the recipients are low-income.

Specific Benefits/Services Provided:

Scholarships to support educational programs.

Program Year/Funding Cycle:

Scholarships are awarded at ACTION-Housing’s annual meeting in June.

Application/Filing Procedures:

Send a brief profile of the individual being nominated to Jon Zimmer in April of each year. The profile should highlight their qualifications for a scholarship award based on the above criteria.

Partner Agencies or Funders:

The Terri F. Gould Scholarship Fund is supported by an annual fundraising campaign conducted by ACTION-Housing. Each year $10,000 to $15,000 is raised for the Fund. As previously noted, our partner agencies include transitional housing facilities and other human service organizations.
