Allegheny Council To Improve Our Neighborhoods, “ACTION” Housing, Inc., was formally incorporated in 1957, through a by-laws amendment to it’s predecessor organization, the Pittsburgh Housing Corporation, which was formed in 1928 to address the community’s most critical housing problems through educational, research and advocacy activities. ACTION’s mission initially reiterated those sentiments, but later added the encouragement of citizen participation as part of a comprehensive planning approach to neighborhood “conservation, rehabilitation and slum clearance by advocating zoning, building, housing and sanitary laws and their enforcement.” Our mission statement today includes those elements, but also provides a focus on asset building and educational and employment opportunities.

This year’s annual meeting is being held at noon on June 4, 2007 in the Grand Ballroom at Omni William Penn Hotel. Following the annual meeting is a 50th anniversary celebration to highlight ACTION-Housing’s dedicated staff and Board Leadership.
