ACTION-Housing’s 51st Annual Meeting
On Wednesday, June 4, 2008, ACTION-Housing, Inc. celebrated its 51st year of operation. The Annual Meeting, held at the Omni William Penn Hotel Grand Ballroom filled with colleagues, friends, and supporters of ACTION-Housing. The Keynote Speaker, Sheila Crowley, President and CEO of the National Low Income Housing Coalition has 25 years of experience in organizational leadership, direct service, policy advocacy, and scholarship on homelessness and housing. Crowley spoke about the need for a National Housing Trust Fund to produce and preserve rental housing for the lowest income families and the implications of the mortgage foreclosure crisis. Later in the afternoon Crowley chaired a roundtable discussion organized by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Housing Alliance and ACTION-Housing, which explored opportunities to create stronger participation in federal housing policies with local non-profit leaders.
Several award presentations were made during the Annual Meeting. Two ACTION-Housing employees received special recognition for their contribution to the agency. Teresa J. Bish, Accountant, 9 years of service, received the Emma Jean Lewis Outstanding Teamwork Award and John Fonner, Maintenance Division, 8 years of service, received the Roger S. Ahlbrandt, Jr. Award for Outstanding Client Service.
Five clients of ACTION-Housing received $1,000 Terri F. Gould Academic Scholarships. George Schweitzer, Svetlana Hahn, Ebony Williams, Ginger Richard and Angelica Grant all received certificates of achievement at the luncheon. For the 2007-2008 fiscal year, ACTION-Housing granted eight educational scholarships from the Terri F. Gould Scholarship Fund.
Brain Hudson and the Mortgage Assistance Staff of the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency received the ACTION-Housing, Inc 2008 Award of Excellence for their innovative and outstanding response to the crisis in the home mortgage industry.
